Working At Pirtek: Q&A Mark Bagwell

Q&A with Mark Bagwell, Centre Manager at Pirtek Swindon

When did you join Pirtek?
I joined Pirtek in November 2002

Did you start in your current role, or have you had a variety of roles within Pirtek?
I have had wide variety of roles within Pirtek. I spent five years as a field service engineer and then twelve years as a depot office supervisor before becoming a centre manager.

What was it about your current job role that attracted you to it?
This was the natural progression of my career within Pirtek.

What does a typical day entail?
As a centre manager, I oversee the day-to-day running of the centre. This involves dealing with service breakdowns and allocating service engineers to attend jobs that come in; receiving and booking in stock; handling customer enquiries; checking customers tickets off to ensure they are charged correctly; and supplying quotations for future work.

What is it about this job that you love?
It’s always busy so there is a lot to get your teeth into. I enjoy making sure that customers are satisfied with the job we have carried out as well as knowing it has been completed in the right manner, with all health and safety considerations taken into account – this is extremely important.

Why do you think someone should consider a job in this industry and specifically with Pirtek?
For a hydraulic service technician, every day is different and it’s very rare you will go back to a job the same as the last one. One day you could be working on plant machinery and the day after it could be flight simulators or military equipment. It’s highly varied.

If you could pass on one piece of advice to the next generation, what would it be?
For the next generation of centre managers, it’s important to be focused, have a good understanding of an engineering type role, and be very dedicated. It’s essential to have satisfaction that jobs have been done and carried out correctly.

Most impressive or interesting job you have ever worked on/been involved with?
One of the most interesting jobs that I have been involved in was refurbishing around 40 military tank transporters by completely replacing all the hydraulic hoses.

Would you like to join Pirtek?

We’re always on the lookout for talented individuals to join the Pirtek family and, in return, we promise an exciting career path no matter the role you choose.
