Amgen Cymru has been providing a range of waste management services since 1993. Operating the Bryn Pica waste management facility in Aberdare, which has the capacity to process up to 30,000 tonnes per annum, alongside operating seven other community recycling centres across the borough, Amgen Cymru is committed to keeping the area’s environmental impact to an absolute minimum.
In 2019, Amgen Cymru turned to us to carry out routine inspections and planned maintenance on its machinery and hydraulics and to ensure the processing plant is always operating smoothly. Material Recycling Facilities (MRF) generate a high level of heat as they process tonnes of waste for recycling, with the incinerators reaching temperatures of around 650°C. Aside from the major health and safety risks associated with damaged hydraulic hoses in the cooling systems, when a cooling system fails, it shuts the entire facility down, potentially costing an organisation thousands of pounds through downtime.
Following the initial setup and onboarding, we looked to reduce the number of emergency reactive callouts by delivering a regular service of planned maintenance and bi-weekly inspections. This, combined with exceptional service, has resulted in a strong partnership with Amgen Cymru as they can count on our technicians to get the job done to a high standard. The waste management specialist is confident that, with the help of Pirtek, facilities will be running at optimum efficiency all year round – supporting its ‘war on waste’.
