Centre roundup

Pirtek Mitcham

Scott was attending a regular callout to replace a hydraulic hose on a Biffa vehicle. Scott noticed the vehicle operator looked unwell. The operator then collapsed and began to have a seizure. Luckily Scott managed to catch him and put him in the recovery position whilst calling for an ambulance and notifying Biffa colleagues. Whilst waiting for the ambulance, the operator regained consciousness and tried to get back into the vehicle. Scott persuaded him to wait for medical help, preventing further harm. The operator made a full recovery and Scott has become the inaugural winner of the Pirtek Special Recognition Award. Well done Scott!

Pirtek in the news

Our National Technical Support Manager Ian Cochran explains how hydraulics play a crucial role within the food and beverage industry in the UKs leading industry magazine for hydraulics, Hydraulics and Pneumatics Magazine.

Pirtek featured in the Summer addition of Industrial Technology, the article focussed on actions businesses can take to prevent a hydraulic hose breakdown and how to extend a hose’s lifespan. With the right care and attention, a properly installed hydraulic hose that’s fit for purpose should last for up to five years, subject to regular maintenance and planned servicing.

Did you know we post a range of blogs on our website? From blogs that focus on hydraulics in specific sectors, to charity events and fundraising there are some interesting reads! Visit pirtek.co.uk/news to stay informed.

Customer spotlight

Customer: Amgen Cymru
Industry: Waste Management and Disposal
Requirement: Emergency hose replacement and planned maintenance
View all our services

Amgen Cymru has been providing a range of waste management services since 1993. Operating the Bryn Pica waste management facility in Aberdare, which has the capacity to process up to 30,000 tonnes per annum, alongside operating seven other community recycling centres across the borough, Amgen Cymru is committed to keeping the area’s environmental impact to an absolute minimum.

In 2019, Amgen Cymru turned to us to carry out routine inspections and planned maintenance on its machinery and hydraulics and to ensure the processing plant is always operating smoothly. Material Recycling Facilities (MRF) generate a high level of heat as they process tonnes of waste for recycling, with the incinerators reaching temperatures of around 650°C. Aside from the major health and safety risks associated with damaged hydraulic hoses in the cooling systems, when a cooling system fails, it shuts the entire facility down, potentially costing an organisation thousands of pounds through downtime.

Following the initial setup and onboarding, we looked to reduce the number of emergency reactive callouts by delivering a regular service of planned maintenance and bi-weekly inspections. This, combined with exceptional service, has resulted in a strong partnership with Amgen Cymru as they can count on our technicians to get the job done to a high standard. The waste management specialist is confident that, with the help of Pirtek, facilities will be running at optimum efficiency all year round – supporting its ‘war on waste’.

Keeping the food and beverage industry moving

Did you know that our technicians understand the strict regulations governing food manufacturing, and will fit hygienic hoses that are FDA compliant and are made from high purity materials?

FDA certification means that the hydraulic hose is made from food grade materials that will not impact the odour or taste of the product and are specifically designed for food and agricultural industries. For example, we supply a corrugated FDA hose that is ideal for the transfer of oily products in full suction and discharge applications. Not only does it meet the sanitary standards of regulatory bodies such as REACH, ADI, FDA, USDA and 3A but it is also built on special stainless-steel mandrels for perfect cleanliness.
