Pirtek Racing’s rising star Jamie Caroline will seek to maintain his early advantage in the F4 British Championship certified by FIA – powered by Ford standings when the series heads for Donington Park this weekend for the second meeting of the year.
Jamie heads for the East Midlands circuit as the man to beat in the highly competitive single-seater series on the back of a fine start to his campaign at Brands Hatch earlier this month.
Two victories from three races, after qualifying on pole position, mean Jamie lies 19 points clear of his closest rival as he prepares to return to the scene of one of his most memorable on-track outings last year.
Then, in challenging wet conditions, Jamie produced an astonishing opening lap in the first race of the weekend to come from 15th on the grid to sixth; a drive that was reminiscent of Ayrton Senna’s 1993 European GP performance.
Having shown his pace in the wet at Donington Park last season, Jamie has already shown himself to be just as quick in the dry having topped official testing at the circuit back in March.
It means that, with confidence on a high following his Brands Hatch results, the 18-year-old Surrey racer goes into the weekend hoping to create more headlines on his second meeting with the Carlin team that has taken the British F4 title for the past two seasons.
“Brands Hatch was a great way to start my season, and it means I head to Donington Park feeling confident and relaxed about my chances,” he said. “We had a good test there last month and with the pace we showed in the opening weekend, I’m confident that we’ll be right in the mix.
“Obviously Donington is a circuit that produced a memorable weekend for me last year but I’d be quite happy if things were a bit less dramatic this time around.
“If we can do what we did at Brands and qualify towards the front of the grid then we’ll be in a great position for race day, and there is no doubt that more race wins are the aim to maintain our championship lead.”
After qualifying on Saturday 15 April at 10.30, the first of three British F4 races will be at 14.40 later that day, with race two following at 17.35. Race three then takes place on Sunday at 12.20
