Jamie Caroline relishes Thruxton challenge

Pirtek-backed teenaged racer Jamie Caroline will chase his first win of the season in the KICK Start Energy Ginetta Junior Championship at Thruxton in Hampshire (9/10 May).

Caroline, who was 16 years-old earlier this year, was selected by Pirtek Racing and Andrew Jordan for support this season as he contests the BTCC-support series for young racers and is one of the key championship contenders with the renowned HHC Motorsport squad.  However, he faces a fight back into contention in the points’ standings after a no-score in round three at Donington Park. Jamie lies seventh in the points heading for Thruxton.

With a full entry of 25 keen young racers, qualifying near the front of the grid on Saturday afternoon will be essential in what is already proving to be the most competitive season to date for the championship. Jamie showed outstanding form at Donington Park last time out as he raced from 20th on the grid to finish fourth overall in round four and he’s now determined to take that form to Thruxton, the fastest track on the schedule.

“Thruxton is where I got my first win last year so I’m looking forward to going back,” said Jamie. “It’s a bit more ballsy than anywhere else and I’ve always liked Thruxton. The car is always a bit lively round there and I like that; I like the track – it’s all about high speed. Confidence is high for Thruxton and I hope we’ll be in good shape for the race weekend.”

The first race starts at 12.55pm on Sunday with the second race at 4.30pm.  Both races will be broadcast live on ITV4 during the extensive BTCC programme.
