Old School

St John’s and St Clement’s CE Primary School in East Dulwich, London is one of those lovely Victorian brick establishments that you feel should be at the heart of every local community.

With close on 400 pupils, the school is well respected, but obviously needs to keep pace with the modern needs of its students. One of the key improvements taking place is the building of a new school hall in the playground. Work was well under way on the groundworks for the new building, when the Kobuta KX057-4 – on hire from GAP Group – damaged the bucket feed hose, preventing further work on the footings.

Having just completed the job at Battersea Dogs Home, Greenwich MSST Lee Dobson certainly had his work cut out to reach the site in East Dulwich and still keep to the promised 1 hour ETA. Despite having to negotiate a major traffic incident in Dulwich High Street involving an overturned HGV, Dobson arrived ahead of the prescribed time, much to the relief of the contractor.

Amidst a sea of mud, Dobson removed the bucket pin to access and remove the hose. After manufacturing the replacement .75m, 1/4″ hose on site, the Kubota was soon brought back into operation; in 14 minutes to be precise.   The contractor was delighted yet Lee Dobson was disappointed.   “Slower than last time.   I can’t have this.   It’s going to ruin my reputation.”

Although said in jest, it demonstrated the advertised 1 hour ETA is not only adhered to by Pirtek, even under adverse conditions, but the actual repair is often expeditiously carried out, enabling customers to continue work with the minimum of unscheduled downtime.
