Andrew Jordan and Pirtek Racing win at Thruxton

Pirtek Racing’s Andrew Jordan enjoyed his best weekend of the Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship season to date at Thruxton, with a win and a podium finish during the third round of the year.

Andrew headed into the weekend looking to bounce back from a tough home event at Donington Park last month, but with renewed confidence in his Motorbase Performance-run Ford Focus after a successful test following the second meeting of the season.

That confidence was evident from the moment track action got underway in Hampshire, with Andrew running at the head of the pack in the opening practice session of the weekend and then finishing second quickest in FP2.

A more challenging qualifying session would see him Andrew line up eighth on the grid for the opening race of the weekend but he returned to form when the race day action got underway – fighting his way forwards to sit third when an incident elsewhere forced officials to throw out the red flags.

Starting third on the grid for race two as a result, Andrew battled his way into second on the opening lap and then set about shadowing leader Adam Morgan; biding his time before making his move for the lead at Allard with two laps to go and then edging away for a his first win of the year.

Although a puncture in race three prevented Andrew from adding to his points tally, he ends the weekend sitting eighth in the championship standings; just 21 points away from top spot.

Andrew also lies second in the Independents’ Trophy with nine races now run.

“I think the weekend has gone really well,” he said. “There is a bit of disappointment initially with the way race three ended, but to come away from the weekend with a win and a podium is great – especially as every man and his dog kept reminding me I hadn’t won since Croft 2014!

“To come back from a tough qualifying session to start the day with a podium was a great and in race two, I knew I just had to wait for the right moment before making a move on Morgan and the plan worked a treat. Had it not been for the puncture in race three, we’d have been right in the mix there too, so we have shown the pace we have in the car and have a good platform to build on.

“I’m pleased that I’ve now opened my account with Motorbase and I feel in a really good place with the team; they’ve welcomed me with open arms. This was where my season started after a tough start, and it’s onwards and upwards from here.”

Next stop for Andrew and the Pirtek Racing Ford Focus is Oulton Park in Cheshire on 4/5 June.
