David Watson Transport

A fully operational ‘Morpheus’ back in business, and new boy MSST Lloyd Boddington who came to the rescue

For a major national transport company to bother to phone through a thank you to Pirtek Newport after an emergency call out speaks volumes for both companies. Specialist transport company, David Watson Transport has 120employees, nearing 100 vehicles and operates from five national depots.

The company’s Colchester branch normally deals with Pirtek Ipswich with whom they have enjoyed a long and trouble-free relationship. But when one of their specialist self-loading crane lorries - a 40 tonne Volvo FM380 6x2 rigid Cormach 4044E6 nicknamed “Morpheus” - developed a faulty hydraulic T-valve on the massive redevelopment site of the former steel works at Ebbw Vale, they realised that a local solution would be more appropriate. The log of the event makes interesting reading. David Watson called Pirtek at 14.29; the Pirtek MSST Lloyd Boddington was on site at 15.02; and the vehicle was repaired by 15.14. An impressive performance but even more so considering that Boddington had only been with Pirtek for two months and was in a completely new area.

"Our driver actually called into the office to say how impressed he was with the repair to his crane loader,” says Emily Carter, assistant service manager for David Watson. “Pirtek Newport had responded extremely quickly and the MSST was both happy and helpful. I thought I should pass that on to Pirtek as a thank you."
